Applications since incorporation of Softwarin Systems:-

LR LoadLine. A multi-user system developed for Lloyds Register of Shipping. Calculation of the correct "load line" to be displayed on the side of a ship. Incorporates additional functions to calculate the required glass thickness for side-scuttles and windows at various positions on the ship. Produces ship certification reports.

LR DanGoods. A multi-user system developed for Lloyds Register of Shipping. Certification of Bulk Cargo ships and ships carrying dangerous goods. This system allows users to enter details about a ship (e.g. what Bulk Cargoes Code requirements each cargo space complies with) and then effortlessly calculates the Bulk Cargoes or Dangerous Goods that can safely be carried in each cargo space. Alternatively, a user can specify which cargoes they would like to carry, and the program calculates the safety requirements that must be complied with before those cargoes can be carried. Issues certification (for ship owners) and other analysis reports.

Commenting on LR DANGOODS, Willem de Jong, managing director of LR’s Marine Division said...

"Given the increasing complexity of IMO conventions and codes, the task of deciding which ones are relevant has become increasingly time-consuming. LR DANGOODS lifts that burden from owners and managers by providing a fast, effective solution and issuing the right certification."

LR Mariner. A system developed for Lloyds Register of Shipping. LR Mariner is a risk-based software tool, available for any ship, classed with LR or not, which helps owners and managers minimise risk in shipboard operations by identifying hazards and implementing controls within those operations. The new tool helps those owners and managers "to establish safeguards against all identified risks" as required in the ISM Code.

The interactive, paperless scheme enables office and sea-going staff to:

  • identify key shipboard operations
  • identify hazards within each shipboard operation
  • evaluate the risks associated with each shipboard operation
  • determine where control of operations can be improved to reduce risk
  • maintain improvement in the safety management of shipboard operations through realistic target setting
Taking into account all the individual risk factors for each shipboard operation, the ship’s risk factor is determined. Future certification issued by LR is subject to an improvement in the safety management of shipboard operations, which is recognised by a reduction in the ship’s risk factor. After a period of time, it may of course not be possible to reduce the ship’s risk factor further and, from then on, certification is dependent on the risk factor being maintained at this level.

The benefits of effective implementation of LR Mariner include:

  • a positive means of achieving safety management objectives
  • a greater awareness by ship staff of hazards and risks in shipboard operations
  • a guide for procedure development
  • an improvement programme
  • an ongoing review of shipboard operations
  • a descriptive note in the Register of Ships and LR Mariner certification

LR ChemShip. A system developed for Lloyds Register of Shipping. Certification of Chemical Tankers. This system allows users to enter details about a ship (e.g. what Chemical Code requirements cargo tanks comply with and the physical characteristics of cargo tanks), then effortlessly calculates the Chemical cargoes that can safely be carried in each cargo tank. Alternatively, a user can specify which chemicals they would like to carry, and the program calculates the safety requirements that must be complied with before those cargoes can be carried. Issues certification (for ship owners) and other analysis reports.

Steel Plate Renewal Thickness calculations as part of WinHCM. WinHCM is a graphics based system developed by Lloyds Register of Shipping for Hull Condition Monitoring of ships.

Representatives Enquiry System. Developed for the Milk Marketing Board. This system was installed on laptop computers carried by representatives, allowing them to enter details of yields and qualities as they visit dairy farms.

Vessel Defect Reporting. A multi-user system developed for Mobil Shipping Limited to guarantee rapid responses to equipment defects or failures on board ships. There are 2 separate systems. A "Vessel" system installed on many Mobil Shipping vessels is used to report equipment defects or failures to the London HQ. Messages are transmitted via the Marinet satellite communications system to HQ. Every message must be acknowledged and a response made (appropriate to the urgency level given to the defect). Responses are transmitted back to the ships via Marinet. All messages and responses are date/time stamped to produce an audit trail of messages and responses.

Vessel/Shore Purchasing system. A multi-user accounting system developed for Mobil Shipping Limited. Designed primarily for users on board Mobil Shipping vessels and at the London HQ to enter and process purchase orders and payments. This system also incorporates requisition notes, quotations, invoicing, credit notes, delivery notes. Data exchange to and from Mobil vessels is via Marinet satellite communications. There is also periodic data exchange to and from an IBM mainframe Accounts Payable system and the GLEX accruals system.

Crew Resource Scheduling. A multi-user system developed for Mobil Shipping Limited. Job "rostering" software to allocate officers and crew of appropriate rank and qualifications to man vessels in a variety of rotating shift patterns.

British Officers Personnel and Leave Analysis. A multi-user system developed for Mobil Shipping Limited, with a periodic data import from an IBM mainframe salary system.
